Below are links to some free programs to help secure your computer, I use them myself but you need to check them out yourself and feel comfortable in using them, we offer no warranty on their use. Hint: (Update Often)
 

AVG antivirus (free edition)

Zonealarm (free firewall) A firewall blocks traffic and programs from accessing the internet unless you say so. Look for and click free downloads and trials.

Adaware Cleans malware and spyware from you computer. These programs track you computing habits and often load programs that cause your computer to behave in a strange manner. Spyware may include key loggers (log all key strokes such as bank passwords etc.) and dialler’s (dial 0900 numbers or make overseas toll calls) Find and click Ad-Aware personal.

Spybot Similar to the above but seems to find some extra’s.

My advice is to try these programs but make sure you update them at least once a week.
